Program という作品に際してグラフィックデザイナー進藤一茂さんから
メッセージを預かりました。
そしてこのメッセージは多くの方に届けたいと願い、英訳を日下部晴香さんにお願いしました。

黒川さんのチェロは以前に聞いたことがありましたが、五十嵐さんの演奏は生では聴いたことがありません。そこで五十嵐さんとお話しする機会を作って、たくさんの話をしました。

五十嵐さんとの話の中で、心に残ったキーワードのひとつが「ラテン」でした。
「ラテン」という言葉を聞いて、どんなイメージを持つでしょうか。
陽気で、明るいひざしの下で踊っているような、そんなイメージを持つ人も多いのではないかと思います。

でも、ラテンをキーワードに人間の関係を見ようとすると、僕にとっては、もう少し奥深いイメージがあります。

一見ほのかに見えるけど心の奥では燃えさかっているような、あるいはふたりだけの秘密ごとのような、そんな種類の強さを感じるのです。

チェロとクラシックギターという二つの弦楽器がどのように交錯するか、あるいは交錯しないのか、どんなふうな関わりを持つのか。そんなところにデザインのヒントを求めました。

そして想像している音を「関係」という切り口で表現できれば、きっとふたりの音楽をイメージするものができるのではないか、と感じました。

微妙なトーンの深い青に、弦を象徴する線が、付いたり離れたり、並んで走ったり、交差したり、そしてときどき頰を染めるように空気が色づく。そんな二人の「場」を想像して表現しました。

I have heard Ms. Kurokawa’s cello before, but I haven’t heard Mr. Igarashi’s guitar on live. Instead, Mr. Igarashi and I had a lot of time to talk.

As I talked with Mr. Igarashi, “Latin” was the keyword that remained in my heart. What images do you have, when you hear “Latin”? A lot of people might think it as a cheerful music, where people dance under the bright sun.

For me, however, I rather have a profound image of Latin, when I try to capture it from people’s relationships. It might seem quiet at first, but there are certain strength and even some secrets that they keep inside their hearts.

How do a cello and a classic guitar interact with each other? Do they intersect at all? If so, how do they relate with each other? I tried to find the hints for my design.

So, I made the design of the program by imagining their music from their “relationships”. On deep blue with a subtle tone, lines come together and apart, run in parallel and intersect, symbolizing their strings. As we blush at their music, those lines sometimes even change the colors of the time and space. I expressed their relationships on the sheet.
